Don’t Forget the Yule Log!
The Yule Log is something traditional to Christmas time, particularly in the United Kingdom, with many using it as an alternative to the old fashioned Christmas Cake. Many are put off by the fruit cake, or the marzipan, brandy, or a combination of all three, so having something on standby is always wise, particularly if you’re expecting guests to come over – wanted or otherwise!
The log is similar to a good old Swiss roll, only it is affected by the decoration to transform it into a more Christmassey dessert, perfect for serving after dinner or in the evening when you’re finishing off the Turkey sandwiches, (or at least making a start on them!)
Normally made of chocolate with cream, a Yule log might look a bit uninteresting, so decorating is a must if you want to make yours look appetizing. But where do you start? There’s only so far you can go with chocolate isn’t there?
Well, for starters you can try edible cake decorations, to put a real stamp on your Yule log. Lots of companies produce Christmas decorations for cakes that allow you to come up with a theme and really transform your Yule log into a beautiful creation that people want to eat, and come back for more of.
More decorations relate to the presentation of the cake. Adding some traditional Christmas decorations to the serving plate can make just as big an impact as icing and candles on a birthday cake. Holly, snowmen, icing sugar and bells all look great and make the perfect accompaniments to your display.
At the end of the day, you just cannot go wrong with chocolate at Christmas, so give it a go and send us some pictures of your attempts!
Happy Christmas!
