The Keys to Successful Baking – Patience and Cake Decorating Accessories

“Let them eat cake” as Marie Antoinette once said. While this is the attitude assumed by, lets face it, most people when it comes to a party, gathering, or slight rumbling of the stomach, there are a few stumbling blocks along the way. The first, and maybe largest of these, is that you may not have a cake, and you have to make one! But this isn’t a huge problem for some, who enjoy nothing more than getting out their mixing bowls, cake decorating accessories, icing and cake stands and making something that looks and tastes unbelievable, making it worth the effort, (and the wait!)

However, is the noises coming from the stomach get larger, and the patience of those waiting for the final product grows shorter, it is important that you still make the cake to the best possible standards, without cutting corners. If you take short cuts, and take the cakes out of the oven too soon, or throw all of your cake decorating accessories over the top in one go just to get it on the table, you’re likely to be underwhelmed when it comes to taking that long-awaited first bite.

Another famous phrase springs to mind. “Good things come to those who wait,” and that is the theory I use every time I step into the kitchen. If you try and rush food, the chances are that it won’t be ready or up to the standard you were hoping for when you first cracked your eggs on the side of the mixing bowl.

Once you’ve gone through all the hard work of mixing everything together sufficiently, and then having the wait that seems to take hours, as opposed to the actual 45 minutes in the oven, allow the cake to cool and decorate it properly. There are hundreds and thousands of cake decorating accessories, (see what I did there folks!), so use them wisely. After all, something that looks appetizing is more likely to have you coming back for more, rather than a big sloppy mess on a plate.

Take your time to get your baking right. Once you’ve got to grips with what you’re doing, and measured everything properly, and allowed it to bake at the right temperature for the perfect length of time, seen it turn golden brown and rise, then you can decorate it how you like and make the wait worthwhile, both in terms of aesthetics and taste.
