Essential Cake Decoration Tools

cake decorating toolsThere’s no denying that getting truly involved with cake decoration can be a wonderful, inspiring thing, and can be very fulfilling for any creative souls out there. However good you are, though, you won’t be able to sculpt that next masterpiece with your fingers! That’s why we here at Cake-Decoration.com have come up with this list of the essential tools you’ll need to help you decorate your cake:

Off-set spatula. It’s likely that you’ll already have a spatula of some kind lying around in the kitchen. However, you’ll need an off-set model for cake decoration, as it’ll mean you’re able to spread icing and frosting around, without the akwardness that can occur with a normal model

A high quality serrated knife. Forget decorating cakes if you haven’t got one of these. Whether it’s for leveling the top, or for carving and shaping your cakes, a decent knife is essential. And buy a good one: a poor model will lead to rough and unprofessional finishes: not something anyone wants!

Piping bags. More or less the meat-and-potatoes (but sweeter!) of cake decoration, piping bags are used to squeeze icing out onto the surface of the cake for writing, shape design and many other creative skills. They can be bought in a variety of different styles, so shop around and try a few out, making sure you get the types that most suit you and your creativity.

Food colouring. If you’re looking to truly optimize what you’re capable of doing when it comes to cake decoration, you’ll need a wide variety of colours to help your designs come to life. Gel colouring is far more effective, as unlike normal food colouring, it won’t fade with time, so your designs will always look as vibrant as when you created them (if they haven’t been eaten by then!).

A good quality Electric whisk is also very important. I got a Kitchen Aid and a Dualit one and they are both ace. Saves on the hand ache:)
