Essential Baking Utensils

baking utensilsIf you are serious about your cake baking then you should be equally serious about your choice of baking utensils as no prize winning cake is ever baked using sub standard kit!

The problem can be knowing exactly what you need to use to produce that jaw dropping, professional standard cake and so we’ve been busy drawing up a little list for you so you can feel more at home in the kitchen and master of all you bake.

First off you MUST have at least a couple of large bowls to do all your mixing, beating and prep. Brands like Wilton do some great versions so make sure you check them out – although a plain old Pirex is still hard to beat.

Next is the tools you’ll need to mix those ingredients together and a proper whisk and wooden spoon are worth spending good money on as they are your main weapons of choice. Consider a professional whisk as they will only set you back around £7 but will be worth their weight in gold. And likewise your spoon. Grip It is a favourite here but you can find equally good ones at any cake shop.

Next comes the measuring accessories and it goes without saying that accurate sizing is key here. You’ll need a measuring jug (a plastic one is best for protecting your batter against odours) and spoons. Many of our keenest cake bakers keep a selection of measuring spoons in their drawer also.

And last but not least in the essentials column are your baking tins – stock up on various sizes of cheescake, sponge and loaf tins and you will cover off most of the baking you will do.
